Bachelor of Dental Surgery or BDS is a 5 years undergraduate course for aspirants of dental education. The 5 years of the course are divided into 4 years of academic learning and a 1 year compulsory rotational/non-rotational internship to earn the degree. The graduates are titled Doctors and are an on-demand career option for NEET aspirants.

The four-year classroom (Core, elective subjects, and Practicals) program covers a vast syllabus of General and Dental Pharmacology, Pathology, Dental Therapeutics, Oral Microbiology and Pathology, and Preclinical Dentistry.

Eligibility for BDS Admission in India

To be eligible to study BDS in India, the candidate must fulfill the following basic criteria:

  • The candidate must be an Indian Nationals/Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)/Non-Resident Indian (NRI)/Person of Indian Origin (PIO)
  • The candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination (must have studied for 12 years) from a recognized board or university with a minimum aggregate of 50% for Unreserved candidates/NRI/OCI/foreign candidates, 45% for SC/ST/OBC.
  • The candidate must be of 17 years of age as of 31st December of the year of admission

ADMISSION & SELECTION PROCESS

  • Based on NEET scores, counseling sessions are conducted by state authorities or the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) at the national level.
  • During counseling, candidates can choose and prioritize their preferred medical colleges and courses based on their NEET ranks
  • After counseling, candidates are allotted seats in medical colleges according to their NEET rank, choices filled during counseling, and availability of seats.
  • Once a seat is allotted, candidates are required to verify their documents and submit the necessary certificates to confirm their admission.
  • After document verification, candidates need to pay the admission fees to secure their seats.
  • The final admission process may include additional procedures set by the respective medical colleges.
