Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery or BAMS

A Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery or BAMS is an undergraduate degree program imparting knowledge on concepts of Ayurveda and its efficient use for treatments of patients. The BAMS was a new division under the initiative of modern medical studies and is conceptualized based on the healing power of the human body.


Ayurveda is the oldest medicinal root in Indian history whose importance was recognized late but wisely across the globe. Today the science of Ayurveda has been recognized worldwide as an alternative for treating various serious illnesses.

Program Details

A BAMS course is 5 years 6 months is a practical driven learning program of which the first 4.5 months is based on academic curriculum while the last year is meant for internship.



Eligibility Criteria for Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery


  1. All college admissions for BAMS are done on the basis of qualifying NEET or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test which is now a mandate for many medical colleges.

  2. Previously, there were many BAMS entrance exams like the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT), JIPMER, state government conducted entrance exams and some states took students based on their 12th class scores.

  3. Passing 10+2 education or equivalent with 50-60% aggregate score in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from a recognized board or school.
